Arrest in Delaware attempted homicide case [video]

New Castle County Police announced the arrest of two suspects, one of whom is believed to have been involved in the Windsor Hills attempted homicide that occurred on January 2nd.

Police have named 19-year-old Jermaine Booker of Wilmington as the main suspect in the case that left a 61-year-old woman severely injured with head, face and upper torso injuries in her own home. The victim remains in serious condition at Christiana Hospital. Although this is still an active investigation, police are calling this a random home invasion and robbery case.

According to investigators, on the second day of the new year, police responded to the 100 block of Cambridge Drive in the community of Windsor Hills after the victim’s husband alerted police when he discovered his injured wife. Additionally, the husband reported that the couple’s 2010 dark grey Lexus sedan was missing from the garage. Investigators had the stolen vehicle and registration entered into the National Crime Information Center immediately. As a result, the stolen Lexus was spotted by Newark, New Jersey police a few days later when police noticed two men in the car that now had New Jersey tags. Investigators say it’s unclear at this point when Booker came in contact with 20-year old Kendall Briscoe, the other person in the vehicle. However, the two men who both have ties to Wilmington and Newark, NJ now face theft and conspiracy charges.

Just this week, Delaware investigators sought four additional charges against Booker, including attempted murder, home invasion, robbery and weapon possession.

Booker and Briscoe are currently incarcerated in Newark, NJ where they were pulled over by police. 

“The Delaware Attorney General’s office will coordinate with the New Jersey authorities to have the suspects extradited back to Delaware. At this point and time, we do not have a timetable for that to occur, but we’re hoping the extradition can be as soon as possible,” said Captain Robert McLucas of New Castle County Police.

The victim’s vehicle has already been towed back to Delaware as evidence in the case and police are still waiting to interview the victim. Police say there’s no indication that the men were known to the victim and they aren’t ruling out that there could be other suspects involved.

Police are reminding people to be alert and know that they’re taking the case very seriously.

“We go out of our way everyday to educate people on how not to be victims, we as a police department are as proactive as we possibly can be. We are out there patrolling these areas where we have programs in place that put the officers in secluded areas,” said Chief Elmer M. Setting of New Castle County Police.
