April 4: FringeArts presents ‘The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller’

If the futures of the past, experimental design, and indie rock legends excite you, then we’ve got an evening for you.

For First Friday April 4 FringeArts will present The Love Song of R.Buckminster Fuller, a documentary exploring the story of iconoclastic designer Buckminster Fuller.

Director Sam Green narrates the film, which is created as he projects pictures from a laptop, while Hoboken’s finest indie rockers Yo La Tengo will play the original score live. 

The multi-media is based on Fuller’s own deep documentation of his life and the presentation apparently “draws inspiration equally from old travelogues, TED talks and the Benshi Japanese performance tradition.” Not something you’re bound to see every day, which is just what FringeArts is made to present. 

Fuller is best known as inventor of the geodesic dome (eg. Epcot Center’s Spaceship Earth), and was a proponent of radical environmentalism and designs that would serve both humanity and the earth. Fuller lived in Philadelphia from 1972 until his death in 1983, teaching at area colleges and universities.
