AmeriCorps volunteers sworn in

100 new AmericCorps volunteers will be sworn in during a ceremony at Legislative Hall.

Lt. Governor Matt Denn will recognize the volunteers who will serve at a number of Delaware agencies and non-profits for the next year. In exchange for a year of service (1,700 hours), AmeriCorps volunteers get $5,350 for college, graduate school, or to pay back student loans. They also get health coverage and in some cases a living allowance of at least $12,100. The program was created under President Bill Clinton to encourage service to meet community needs. More than 85,000 volunteers join AmeriCorps every year.
