Abington School District’s cyber program targets charter students

In an effort to recover some of the students it lost to cyber charter schools, the Abington School Board has voted to implement a online education program.

Approved at a meeting last week, the program would be designed for sixth- through 12th-graders whom the district hopes will return from cyber charter schools.

Computers, Internet service and textbooks will come from the Chester County Intermediate Unit through Brandywine Virtual Academy, the Glenside News Globe Times Chronicle reports, costing about $5,000 per student and $20,000 per year for course development and marketing.

Of the 82 students from the district enrolled in cyber charter schools, 40 are in grades sixth through 12.
