The West Philadelphia El Reconstruction Project is set to be “substantially complete” by Fall 2009.  Only a few more shutdowns are planned:

Final Weekend Shutdowns

March 20-23

March 27-30

April 3-6

April 17-20

Weekend El shutdowns begin at 8pm Friday and end 5am Monday.  Shuttle buses travel between 40th Street and the 69th Street Terminal via Chestnut and Walnut Streets, making stops at 40th, Farragut, 48th, 52nd, 56th, 57th, 60th, and 63rd Streets.

The El will be running fully during Easter and Mother’s Day weekends, no El shutdowns are planned this summer.

According to a SEPTA fact sheet, SEPTA has hosted 76 community meetings on this project since 1999, and issued over 180 progress reports.  SEPTA has also sponsored 50 cleanups along the Market Street corridor since 2005, and removed an estimated 50 tons of litter and trash.

There is a community meeting to discuss the El shutdowns on March 12.
