5 family activities for the weekend

    Here’s a look at what’s going on this weekend for families. 

     

    Splash into Summer Opening Weekend at the Philadelphia Museum of ArtFriday, June 27 to Sunday, June 28Opening weekend celebration of Philadelphia Museum of Art’s 10-week program. Each week explores a highlight from the collection. This weekend Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” kicks off the celebration. There is artsy playtime, gallery tours, gallery games, tours for tots, read and look and other activities for children and families. Free for children under 12

    The Cat in the Hat – Extended at The ArdenFriday, June 27 through Sunday, June 29The Arden has extended Dr. Seuss’ “The Cat in the Hat” with final performances on Friday (1 p.m. and 7 p.m.), Saturday (noon, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.) and Sunday (noon and 4 p.m.). The classic children’s book comes to life with Dr. Seuss’ beloved characters including the acrobatic Thing One and Thing Two!

    Party at the Fareway in Chestnut HillSaturday, June 28 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.A community celebration of summer! Live music, great food vendors, desserts and drinks. Hayley Jordanna, known for her energetic blend of blues and rock, is the party’s featured performer. Enjoy an evening under the stars in the refurbished breezeway between the Chestnut Hill Hotel and Market at Fareway, complete with flowered landscape, fire pit, water fountain, free parking and plenty of seating.

    Final-ly Friday in Mt. AiryFriday, June 27 at 6 p.m.A street fair that happens on the last Friday of the month on the 7100 block of Germantown Avenue in Mt. Airy. Afterwards head to Dining Under the Stars and Moonlight Movies at the park next to Lovett Memorial Library. This week’s showing is “Beetlejuice” and the featured food trucks are Pbon’s Fresh Phood and Bonjour Creperie.

    The Great American Campout at the Schuylkill CenterSaturday, June 28 through Sunday, June 29Attendees can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, campfire storytelling, a wildlife program, stargazing, and camping gear clinics from REI before settling down for the night in the Center’s woodlands. Dinner and breakfast included.
