4-year-old shot, killed in Philadelphia

Philadelphia police say a 4-year-old girl was shot in the right eye inside a home and died.

The girl’s 25-year-old mother and 3-year-old sister were at the home in North Philadelphia when the child was shot around noon Thursday, police said.

Lt. John Stanford says officers arrived to find the “mom on the front steps holding the little girl.” The girl was shot in a second-floor bedroom, he said.

She was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital and pronounced dead around 1 p.m.

Homicide Lt. Philip Riehl told The Philadelphia Inquirer the mother is being interviewed, and there were “various male IDs” in the house.

It was unclear what led to the gunfire.

The weapon has been recovered.
