Judith Shuman Eden, a respected private practice attorney and a former Zoning Board of Adjustment member; recently appointed to the Zoning Code Commission, passed away Friday at age 61.

She will be missed and was remembered fondly at Wednesday’s 8 a.m. meeting of the Zoning Code Commission, colleagues say.

Eden was a past co-chair of the Center City Residents’ Association Zoning Committee, a position she held for more than a decade. She was a board member of the Center City District and the Friends of the Mural Arts Program.

Natalia Olson de Savyckyj, a colleague on the commission and a transportation planner with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, said she will sorely miss her friend, and intends to give remarks about Eden on Wednesday.

“She was a wonderful lady full of energy, wise opinions and extremely knowledgeable,” said Olson de Savyckyj. “She used to arrive early to our ZCC meetings, she would take my name placard and put it next to hers so we could always sit together. We really hit it off from the beginning. She took it upon herself to teach me the ins and outs of the zoning process and the politics involved, and always gave me great advice. I will really, really miss her.”

Services were held Sunday.
