Philadelphia seeks help from a unique efficiency expert

Can the company that delivers your latest online shopping purchase also help Philadelphia renovate city properties more quickly?

The Nutter administration thinks so.

Philadelphia Budget Director Rebecca Rhynhart says that even though the city continues to try, it cannot seem to move capital projects, such as major repairs and building refurbishments along quickly. Rhynhart has says Philadelphia is turning to an unorthodox expert for help.

“There has been a capital working group headed by the Public Property Commissioner and she has been working with the private company UPS to look at all of the hundreds and hundreds of steps required that have built up over the years to get a project done,” said Rhynhart.

UPS efficiency experts are working to streamline the city’s process. The Nutter administration also has hired some new maintenance workers to prevent buildings from having to be replaced for lack of upkeep.
