2012 Philadelphia Folk Festival – Sunday

The final day of the 2012 Philadelphia Folk Festival closed last night with high energy performance from Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. The show ended just before 10 p.m. Earlier in the evening there were performances from Hillbenders, The Secret Sisters, City and Colour, Martin Guitar Jam, Red Clay Ramblers, Tracy Grammer and Great Groove Band.

NewsWorks photographer Howard Pitkow covered the entire Festival and we’ll have more photos of the Sunday night concerts here on Monday.

This year was the first time that concerts from the Main Stage were streamed live to the internet via IRadioPhilly.com. This also allowed the public to listen to music live via apps onto smartphones. It was a nice addition to the 51 year-old festival.

It is the longest continuously-running outdoor musical festival of its kind in North America. It was held again at Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford Township, near Schwenksville, PA. It is produced by the Mt. Airy-based Philadelphia Folksong Society.

This was also the 51st consecutive year as host for WXPN-FM DJ Gene Shay who has been called the “Godfather of Philadelphia Folk Music.” Thanks Gene and The Philadelphia Folk Song Society for another great year of music.
