2 missing boaters rescued in Silver Bay

Rescuers found a man and a woman clutching a buoy in the middle of Ocean County’s Silver Bay after their catamaran capsized.

The boat rolled over in rough weather early Sunday evening.

Toms River police say Ashley Kowalski was able to get back to the vessel and signal for help. But her father, Joseph, and a friend, Alexandra Ladzinski, were missing.

Silverton Fire Chief Gary Tattersall tells the Asbury Park Press four fire companies in boats combed the water for 45 minutes before the missing pair were found.

Tattersall says all the boaters were wearing life jackets. They were checked by paramedics and released.
