Police identify body of 3rd woman strangled in Kensington

Philadelphia Police have identified the body of a 27 year-old woman who was strangled to death.  Her body was found in the same neighborhood where two other women were killed in the same manner.

Police are waiting to see if DNA evidence links the most recent death to the same criminal, the so-called Kensington Strangler, who’s tied to the two other cases.

Police spokesman Lt. Ray Evers said the city could have a serial killer on its’ hands.

“By definition it’s three or more homicides that happen in a period of time, that have the same characteristics or MO in each and every homicide,” Evers said.  “The victims from what we know live a high risk lifestyle but that doesn’t make it different from another person,” he added, “This was someone’s loved one.”

Evers said the Police will probably step up their efforts even more.  They have already set-up a task force that includes members of the homicide, vice, and special victims units, as well as officers from the 24th and 26th districts.

Evers encouraged the public to report tips to the police.
