Kensington on edge as police hunt for strangler

Philadelphia Police continue the hunt for the so-called Kensington Strangler.  Homicide investigators say the man may have killed two women, and nearly killed another in the same neighborhood. It’s just a few blocks walk from the New Kensington Community Development Corporation office on Frankford Avenue, to the spot where the last body was found.  Another woman says she too was nearly killed here last month.”This is one of the lots that we periodically come out and clean-up…keep the grass and weeds down so no illicit activities happen here,” said Sandy Salzman, the Executive Director of the community development corporation.

She points to the large “L” shaped plot that’s neat and tidy, then gestures to a spot in the back that’s covered in weeds and trash where yellow CAUTION tape still flaps in the wind.”It’s scary, because the Market-Frankford El is right down the street and people walk down these streets to get home into the neighborhood,” said Salzman.Salzman says she’s telling people to be more vigilant and aware of their surroundings.  The manager of a nearby pizza shop says there should be more police in the neighborhood.
