16-year-old killed in Delaware shooting

A 16-year-old from New Castle died over the weekend when someone opened fire outside a high school party at a community center near Newark.

The shooting happened outside the Brookside Community Center in the 900 block of Marrows Road around 11:45 p.m. Saturday. The victim has been identified as DAndr’e Green, who lives on Landers Lane in the community of Swanwyck in New Castle.

When New Castle County Police arrived at the scene they found a large crowd of people outside the community and discovered the victim nearby. They got help from State Police and other agencies in controlling the crowd and starting the investigation process by canvassing the neighborhood in a search for suspects.

So far there is no known motive for the shooting and now word on possible suspects.

According to a statement posted on the community center’s Facebook page, six to eight shots were fired from the bottom of the facility’s driveway. The statement goes on to say, “We still don’t know at this time if this shooting was connected to the sweet 16 party taking place at the center. This homicide is still under investigation.”
