New Castle County Police arrested a 15-year-old in connection to the shooting death of a Newark resident in June.

Following a month-long investigation, police were able to secure an indictment from the Delaware Attorney General’s Office against Michael Walley of Newark. The teen was arrested at his home on Tuesday.

Walley is charged with first degree murder, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. on June 30 near the unit block of Heron Court in the Sparrow Run Townhouses development in Newark.

When police arrived, they found 18-year-old Dewayne Barfield suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso.

Barfield was transported by ambulance to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting.
