A 13-year-old boy from Edgemoor is accused of shooting a 15-year-old last week.

New Castle County Police say the younger teen turned himself in on Thursday. He’s accused of shooting a 15-year-old in the area of South Pennewell Dr. in Edgemoor around 11 p.m. on Sunday night. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

“I am deeply disturbed by all incidents of gun violence,” said NCCo Police Chief Colonel Vaughn Bond. “However, this particular incident is especially concerning since the defendant is a 13 year old child. I hope this will serve as a wakeup call to all adults that we have a responsibility to do more to reach and teach our children.  They have to learn that any violence, especially gun violence, is not an acceptable solution to conflict.”

The 13-year-old is facing charges including first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a handgun by a juvenile and two counts of first-degree reckless endangering. He’s being held at the county Detention Center after failing to post $35,000 secured bail.
