Stepfamilies and stepparenting

Listen 00:48:43

Guests: Patricia Papernow, Kenneth Covelman

A wedding photo went viral this week — not of a bride and groom — but of a father and stepfather.  In the picture, as the dad walks the daughter down the aisle, he grabs the hand of the stepfather and pulls him into the procession.  The stepfather was brought to tears, as were many people who saw the image.  This hour we are talking about blended families and some of the challenges of stepparenting and of being a stepchild, as well as some of the rewards.  Marty talks with PATRICIA PAPERNOW, a psychologist and author of Surviving and Thriving in Stepfamily Relationships: What Works and What Doesn’t, and KENNETH COVELMAN, chair of the department of couples and family therapy at Thomas Jefferson University.
