Shall we dance? Inside the world of competitive ballroom dancing
ListenHour 2
Interest in ballroom dancing is surging. And if folks aren’t learning it and doing it, they’re watching it on television. Last week’s finale of “Dancing with the Stars” drew 19.5 million total viewers. In this hour of Radio Times, we’ll go behind the scenes of competitive ballroom dancing. We’ll talk about salsa, tango, the rumba, the glamour, the romance, the athleticism and what it takes to win. Temple University sociology professor JULIA ERIKSEN is the author of the new book Dance With Me: Ballroom Dancing and the Promise of Instant Intimacy. She started dancing as a teenager and then went back to the ballroom a few years ago and entered the world of pro/am competition with her instructor SCOTT LAZAROV of DanceSport Academy in Ardmore. They both join us in the studio for an hour of conversation about the world of ballroom dancing.
