The who’s who of Sanditon

Charlotte

Our leading lady, the classic Austen heroine. Formerly described as naïve and open-hearted, Charlotte ended Season 1 wiser and disappointed. This Season, she brings her sister Alison to Sanditon with her. Will she fall in love again? And will Alison have just as many opinions as Charlotte? (We hope so.)

Sidney

A heartthrob who started out critical of Charlotte but then fell in love with her. But, another twist! When his brother Tom goes into debt, Sidney must marry for money. Judging by the Season 2 cast list, we won’t see Sidney again in Sanditon.

Young Springer

This writer is a Young Springer fan. It’s unlikely we’ll see him again this season, since he went off to be an architect in London, but one can hope.

Georgiana

An heiress who becomes Sidney’s ward in Sanditon, she and Charlotte struck up a close friendship. Georgiana’s had her heart broken too — will the friends find new romance or stay independent, outspoken single women together?

Esther

Esther! The only person with a happy ending in Season 1. Esther and Babington are the surprise marriage of the season, an unlikely but lovely pairing. But according to the Season 2 trailer, Edward and Clara are back to throw more obstacles in the way of Esther’s happiness.

Tom Parker

Sidney’s older brother who has spent all of his fortune on building Sanditon. Tom is a dreamer but not a planner, and is constantly biting off more than he can chew. His wife, Mary, is a voice of reason — but to what avail?

Lady Denham

The queen of Sanditon herself, Lady Denham is the wealthy patron of Sanditon. Season 2 saw her three closest relations — Esther, Edward and Clara — vying for her inheritance, but much like the Dowager Countess, Lady Denham will never die.

Of course, there are many new faces coming to Sanditon this season, and I, for one, eagerly anticipate meeting each of them on Sunday.

Til then,

Christine
