Linda Wang, a medical student from Canada with a hankering for jazz, was just passing through Philadelphia visiting family when she discovered a piano in the lobby of Perelman’s Center for Advanced Medicine.

Pulse reporter Elana Gordon just happened to be passing by, en route to an interview. Thankfully, she had her recorder in hand.

“It just said on the sign that you could check in with the information desk to play, and they said ‘sure,” Wang tells Gordon. “It’s been a really good afternoon.”

Wang says she likes to find public pianos wherever she goes.

“Often hospitals have a piano in the lobby, and when I’m on call and I don’t have a patient to see, I usually just go and play for a while,” she says.
