22 bank robberies in the region this year, just one with a gun
Last week’s armed robbery at a TD Bank branch in Abington, Pa., marks an exception this year. None of the other 21 bank robberies in our region was committed with a gun.
NewsWorks Tonight Host Dave Heller talks about the trend of unarmed robberies with Jeff Blumenthal, reporter for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Blumenthal says he has been told that bank robbers are less frequently using guns because they know they don’t need them. Also, he says, “If you rob a bank with a gun, it carries a stiffer penalty.”
