Matthew Guilhem poses for a portrait

Matt Guilhem

Host

Matt Guilhem comes to WHYY from California. He’s typically on the WHYY air hosting “All Things Considered,” but don’t be surprised if he pops up in the midday or on “Studio 2” occasionally. Matt has been working in public radio for more than a decade – usually as a host and reporter, but he’s got plenty of editing experience as well. This is his first time living on the East Coast, so be gentle.

His career started when he volunteered at the member station in his hometown in Southern California. One thing led to another, and suddenly he was hosting afternoon drive and regularly reporting on everything from wildfires and mid-century architecture in Palm Springs to the December 2015 terror attack that shook the region. The San Bernardino chapter was followed by a multi-year stint in Boise, Idaho where he was a reporter and the local “Morning Edition” host. One of his favorite stories he did there was about the establishment of a dark sky reserve to preserve the pristine, pitch black skies above the Sawtooth Mountains. He left the Gem State in 2019 and returned to SoCal to work for KCRW in Santa Monica. There he was an anchor, reporter, editor, fill-in host, and very rarely a producer.

When Matt isn’t behind the mic, he’s probably out exploring Philadelphia and the greater Northeast or mixing up a cocktail at his bar cart.
