Carrie Hagen

Carrie Hagen has freelanced for NewsWorks since January 2013. She appreciates the opportunity to bring attention to local residents who contribute to their neighborhoods in often unrecognized ways. Carrie grew up in Levittown, where she heard countless stories of her father's childhood in Germantown. In 2011, The Overlook Press published a book she wrote about one of the area's forgotten mysteries: "we is got him" is the narrative nonfiction account of the first recorded ransom kidnapping investigation in American history.  Over the past few years, Carrie's essays and commentary have appeared in several print and online publications, including The Philadelphia Daily News, Nerve.com, and Metropolis. Carrie lives in Northern Liberties with her husband, her baby girl, a crazy beagle and a cat named Rick Danger. She has an MFA in Writing Nonfiction from Goucher College.
