Winter solstice and the holidays

December 21st at 12:47 pm marks the arrival of earth at Winter Solstice. While we think of the beginning of Winter as starting on a particular date it’s actually that the earth arrives at a particular location in its orbit around the sun. The changes in the amount of light during this time of year had a lot to do with holidays being centered around this time of year.
