White Trash

    Listen 00:48:44

    Guest: Nancy Isenberg

Filmmaker John Waters once asked, “is white trash the last racist thing you can say and get away with?”  The pejorative is used to describe the poor, often forgotten, white population in America.  Louisiana State History professor NANCY ISENBERG uses the term to great effect in the title of her new book, White Trash: The 400-Year Untold History of Class in America.  We’ll hear about how class divisions made their way from England to colonial America to the present day, reinforcing misconceptions and realities of the working white poor.
