Ultimate Frisbee In Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Area Disc League (PADA)

Listen

Guests: Tracy Berg, Rick Atkins, and Nick Hirannet

Over the past 40 years, ultimate frisbee has grown from a sport played by a few high school students in New Jersey to a sport played around the world. Here in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Area Disc Alliance, the region’s ultimate frisbee hub, is celebrating its 29th year and boasts hundreds of members and numerous leagues across the area. The city also has a three-year-old pro team, the Philadelphia Spinners, who compete with other Major League Ultimate teams from across the country. In this hour of Radio Times, we hear from three guests deeply involved in ultimate. NICK HIRANNET, captain of the Philadelphia Spinners Major League Ultimate team, RICK ATKINS, program director of the Philadelphia Area Disc Alliance (PADA), and TRACY BERG, longtime PADA member and ultimate player, discuss the growth of ultimate frisbee in the Philadelphia region and beyond, why they love the sport, and what the future holds.
