Trumpet player Terell Stafford

    GUEST: TERELL STAFFORD

Philadelphia has been home base to many great jazz horn players, including Lee Morgan, Stan Getz, and John Coltrane. And our guest, TERELL STAFFORD, may soon be considered part of this musical legacy. Philadelphia piano great McCoy Tyner said Stafford is “one of the great players of our time, a fabulous trumpet player.” The classically-trained Artistic Director of the newly-formed 17-piece Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia and Director of Jazz Studies at Temple University puts his trumpet down for an hour to talk to Marty Moss-Coane to listen to some of his recordings of his favorite artists and his own compositions. We’ll find out how he hopes “to bring folks together on a musical plane and social plane,” what he wants his students to take away from his experience and how he copes with his busy schedule, wearing his many musical hats.
