Hour 1

All week, WHYY is broadcasting The Shale Game, an in-depth look at the debate and the development of the natural gas industry in Pennsylvania’s Marcellus shale. WHYY reporters KERRY GRENS and SUSAN PHILLIPS investigated several aspects of the burgeoning industry, and its myriad impacts on Pennsylvania life, politics, economy and environment, from Philadelphia and on the ground in northeast Pennsylvania. Kerry and Susan join Marty in studio today to discuss their work and one of the most important issues in Pennsylvania today: Marcellus Shale natural gas. Then, we’ll talk to JAMES BROWNING of Common Cause Pennsylvania, who’s been tracking the money from the industry at the website marcellusmoney.org as it flows into political campaigns throughout the commonwealth.
