The debate over Pennsylvania’s state stores – privatization or the status quo?

As Pennsylvania faces an ongoing budget crisis, there are renewed calls for privatizing the Commonwealth’s liquor stores. In April, House Republican Whip Mike Turzai unveiled legislation to privatize the wholesale and retail operations of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB). We’ll check in with Patrick J. Stapleton, Chairman of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board about efforts to make the system more customer-friendly. Then we’ll debate the pros and cons of privatization with Matthew Brouillette of The Commonwealth Foundation, a proponent of privatization, and Wendell Young, President of UFCW Local 1776, the union representing state store employees.
