Guests: Peter Goldenthal, Lindsay Hoffman and Tom Murse
Dick Cheney’s daughters, Mary and Liz, are in the throes of a very public and bitter spat over same-sex marriage. Mary is gay and married. Liz is trailing in her bid for U.S. senate representing Wyoming and she has vocally declared her opposition to same-sex marriage in an effort to attack her opponent who supports the rights of gays to marry. Their parents, Dick and Lynn have gone on record in support of candidate Liz. All this got us thinking about what their Thanksgiving gathering would be like and what happens in households across the country when family members disagree on important political and social issues. We’ve invited family therapist PETER GOLDENTHAL, University of Delaware professor LINDSAY HOFFMAN, and journalist TOM MURSE and to join us. Goldenthal is a psychologist and author of Beyond Sibling Rivalry and Why We Can’t Get Along? Healing Adult Sibling Relationships, Hoffman teaches communications and political science and Murse is the digital editor for Lancaster Newspapers and Lancaster Online.
