Recreational sports for adults; and to stretch or not to stretch
Listen 00:48:44Guests: Jason Cooper, Dan Feeney, Denise Donald, Malachy McHugh
Most of us played sports when we were kids, but we drop out suddenly when we become adults — only 25% of adults participate in athletics. With summer approaching, it’s the perfect time to get back into the game by joining one of the many recreational leagues in the Philadelphia area. You can play volleyball, soccer, basketball, dodgeball or kickball to name a few – and there’s camaraderie, a little competition, and plenty of happy hours to boot. This hour we talk about the growing rec sport associations in our area with JASON COOPER, director and co-founder of the Philadelphia Sports Network and DAN FEENEY, CFO of Philadelphia Sport & Social. We’ll also learn about the craze for pickleball, the fastest-growing sport in the nation. DENISE DONALD, district ambassador of the U.S.A. Pickleball Association fills us in on the addictive new sport. But finally, before you get out on the court or field again, should you stretch or not? The subject has been hotly debated. Marty gets the final word from MALACHY MCHUGH, director of Research at the Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma (NISMAT) at Lenox Hill Hospital in New Your City.
