Meet Philadelphia poet laureate Frank Sherlock

    Listen

    Guest: Frank Sherlock

This January Southwest Philly-native FRANK SHERLOCK became Philadelphia’s second poet laureate, succeeding Sonia Sanchez. His reign is for two years and his honorary urban bard duties include what he’s been doing all along: chronicling and engaging Philadelphia’s disparate communities. Sherlock is also charged with working with young poets and giving public readings. A 2013 Pew Fellow in the Arts for Literature, he is the author of several books of poetry including “Journeys South: Evolving Immigrant Histories of South Philadelphia,” a collaboration with the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program.
