Happy Halloween!
Do you know the origins of Halloween? This particular celebration really refers to a cross-quarter day, which marks the halfway point between the first day of Fall and the first day of Winter. The very next day, November 1st, is All Saints Day and has been in existence since the 8th century. Another treat or trick as it may be, is the incredible display of Northern Lights across the sky. Typically, Fall and Spring are good times to catch this, but usually never this far South. Right now, the increase in solar activity is causing visibility of Northern Lights as far South as Alabama and Georgia. However, we didn’t see the most recent sighting here in the Delaware Valley, because of an overcast sky and the fact that it was a very short display. To try and catch them keep your eye on reports from spaceweather.com. Also, don’t miss what’s in the night sky this week. All this and more on this week’s Sky Talk.[audio: st20111031.mp3]
