Heroin Update
In June the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services issued a warning about the increase in the number of deaths from Fentanyl. That’s a synthetic drug 50 to 100 times more potent than heroin. Health warnings, drug busts and arrests are helping to control the use of heroin in the region. Some other approaches are being applied as well. We begin our First Look on the topic of heroin with Shirley Min.

First Person: Colonel Elmer Setting
We continue our update on Delaware’s heroin problem in our First Person segment. We’re going to talk with New Castle County Police Chief Colonel Elmer Setting about that department’s use of Narcan.

Heroin Alert
Ask anyone connected with the heroin problem and they’ll tell you the need for more awareness is key. Over time there have been programs dealing with alcohol and tobacco use, all the way up to marijuana and cocaine. New Castle County wants to target the middle class in their heroin education.

The Arden Canoe Maker
Warren Rosenkranz retired about 6 years ago. He made his first boat from a kit, but wanted to be a bit more creative. Today he’s using the skills and craftsmanship of years ago to build canoes and kayaks right in his home workshop.

First Experience: Del. Shakespeare Festival
For over a decade the Delaware Shakespeare Festival has brought the works of ‘The Bard’ to audiences in Wilmington. This year they are performing Shakespeare’s ‘Taming of the shrew’. To keep the play fresh it’s set against the backdrop of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. This year’s production is performed in the round, so grab a lawn chair, pack a picnic and lets head to Rockwood park for this week’s First Experience.
