Deciphering Spin

Listen 00:48:44

Guests: Chris Cerf, David Greenberg

Today on Radio Times we’ll take a look at the language and tactics of political spin. We’ll speak with humorist CHRISTOPHER CERF, co-author with Henry Beard of the book Spinglish. The book is a dictionary of the intentionally-deceptive language used by the military, businessmen, and yes, politicians. Cerf will unpack some of the more egregiously obtuse terms used in the political realm to mask the reality of what they are actually saying. And DAVID GREENBERG will explain how American voters and political watchers have become keen on the deception used by politicians. He is associate professor of History and of Journalism & Media Studies at Rutgers University and his book, Republic of Spin, is an examination of how, and why, Americans have become so paranoid of our elected leader’s intentions and tactics.
