Chris Christie, Trump, the GOP and the Garden State

    Listen 00:48:44

Guests: Christine Todd Whitman, Matt Katz and Matt Friedman

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie took lots of heat at home when he endorsed Donald Trump’s nomination for the presidency a few weeks ago. Seven New Jersey newspapers called for his resignation and several republican lawmakers in the Garden State told Christie he needed to choose between Trenton and Trump’s campaign trail. In response, the Governor vowed to address New Jersey’s most pressing issues and complete his term of office. So what’s behind Chris Christie’s endorsement of Donald Trump, who Christie once said was not fit to be president? How’s it playing at home within his party and among New Jersey voters. And what’s ahead for Christie politically while in office and after? We’ll hear first from Governor CHRISTINE TODD WHITMAN who has been highly critical of a Trump candidacy and Christie’s endorsement. Then we’ll turn to reporters MATT KATZ of WNYC and MATT FRIEDMAN of POLITICO for analysis.
