Astronomical Discovery Knows No Age Limit

Ten year old Kathryn Gray discovers a Supernova in a very interesting way. Can you imagine discovering a Supernova at the young age of 10? Making a discovery like this is like winning the lottery, since there is such an expanse of sky to study.  How big was the explosion that Kathryn detected? Will this eventually happen to our star? Yes, it will eventually happen to the sun, but not for at least 5 billion years, so we have some time. And a Japanese space craft arrives at an asteroid, but the trip back was wrought with problems. Also, what’s in the night sky this week. All this and more on this week’s Sky Talk.[audio: st20110110.mp3]
