Zoo with Roy blogger on Phillies trade: ‘Find the positive’

The anonymous Zoo With Roy blogger has some opinions about today’s MLB trades. The key, he says, is to find the positive. How are you feeling about losing Victorino and Pence?

The anonymous blogger at Zoo With Roy, which he describes as “the world’s foremost blog about wanting to go to the zoo with Phillies ace and 2010 National League Cy Young Award Winner Roy Halladay,” has some opinions about today’s MLB trades.

Q: How long have you been a Phillies fan?

A: I’ve personally been a Phillies fan from 27 to 27.5 years. By my count.

Q: And how do you feel today?

A: [deep sigh] Conflicted. Well, actually, I’m not even that conflicted. I’m pretty sad — which I know you probably didn’t bring me on to hear, but, it’s just, it’s sad to think that particularly this focuses mostly on Shane Victorino … leaving the team.

Q: Why are you so sad about it? It’s only a game; these are people who makes millions of dollars; it’s a business. Should we really be sad about these things?

A: Well, I guess if you’re going to take that macro view of things … Sports particularly — a lot of entertainment — is a diversion. Even though it’s not necessarily the most important thing in our lives, we still invest a lot of our time, our money, our emotions into it. So I think it’s fair to feel sad if you have a connection to something when its time comes to an end.

I mean I’m not — this isn’t my position — but folks could just as easily say, “A dog’s not a person. Why were you sad when a bus ran over your dog? It’s not your child.” And you’d want to punch them in the face or the neck. I don’t think that’s the approach we want to take, Elizabeth.

Q: So what’s your advice to Phillies fans who are feeling really terrible today, feeling really sad?

A: My first bit of advice would be to get the dog-getting-run-over imagery out of your head, ’cause that was a terrible analogy.

Um, look for the positive. There can be positives that come of this. Domonic Brown, our perpetual prospect in waiting, is going to get to play some more … Maybe one of these dorks we get in a trade … will be good. You never know.

Shane Victorino was a Rule 5 pick up.

I mean we’re in last place. How much worse could it get? Try to find the positive. We pretty much stink this year, so it can’t get much worse. Maybe some change will be for the better.

Q: Do you make yourself feel better by posting these doctored photos, including many of your hero Roy Halladay? The water polo one is amazing.

A: I didn’t make the water polo one. That’s from a guy named Matt who’s very talented. But the ones that I do make, in addition to Matt’s, they do cheer me up. It’s fun. Sometimes if you can’t laugh at some of the things that are causing you heartache or a tummy ache, then you’re just going to be grumbly.

So find the positive, and even if you have to create your own humor, then you’ll be happy. And happy’s good.
