Yoga on the Ridge prepares for move to Domino Lane

Yoga on the Ridge, a yoga studio in Roxborough, will be moving this May to a new location on Domino Lane, across from the Ivy Ridge shopping center. The space boasts a larger studio, handicapped accessibility and a Moroccan theme.

To get the space, Theresa Conroy, owner of Yoga on the Ridge, needed a variance to move into the C1 commercial zone, which designates the space for retail use. The former Philadelphia Daily News journalist and Roxborough resident says she was thankful to have support from the community.

“Folks in the neighborhood are excited about the move,” said Conroy, “I think because of the nature of a yoga studio, our impact is quiet.”

The new space is more visible and accessible in comparison to her current spot, located behind a 7-Eleven store on Conarroe St. “The primary thing I was looking for was more space,” said Conroy, “and there will be easier parking and access.”

Conroy is a certified yoga teacher and yoga therapist who is trained to work with clients in therapeutic yoga for rehabilitation and conditions such as Parkinson’s disease. Part of the new studio renovations include transforming a tiny bathroom into a handicapped accessible one.

Initially, Conroy took yoga class for stress reduction when she quit smoking. She says yoga helped her with many aspects of her life, including reducing anxiety and losing weight.

“Yoga changed my life so much that I wanted to share it with other people,” said Conroy.

Yoga on the Ridge will continue to feature reduced-rate “community classes” for $10 and there are plans to add on intermediate classes, prenatal and kids/teens classes.

Conroy is excited to begin decorating and stenciling the new studio with her Moroccan theme in mind.

“You’re in a strip mall, so you really have to transport people and make the space an oasis.”

No word yet on the new location’s official opening date.
