    The contest is to invent something worth eating out of a mystery ingredient, in just one hour. Garces got short ribs and used them in a southwestern barbecue menu.

    The meal earned him a regular spot in the gladiator-style competition. And Chef Jose Garces says he will bring the experience back to the five Latin-influenced restaurants he owns in Philadelphia.

    Garces: In thinking of these menus for Iron Chef you have to tap into a big creative resource – forces you to get a little more creative. That insight into developing foods I hope to bring back to the menus.

    Garces says while he is performing as an Iron Chef next year, he will be rolling out 3 new eateries in Philadelphia. He says the Philadelphia restaurant market is reaching saturation.
