Worker killed in blast at eastern Pa. plant

Authorities say a worker was killed in an explosion at an eastern Pennsylvania manufacturing plant.

Emergency crews in Berks County were called to the Timet titanium plant in Caernarvon Township just before 11 p.m. Friday.

The Reading Eagle reports that Deputy Coroner Christopher Chesonis pronounced 27-year-old Jacob Lopez of Ephrata dead shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Township police officer Matthew Menna said the blast happened in the melt shop of the plant, but there was no fire by the time officers arrived. At least one other person was transported to Reading Hospital for treatment.
