Work begins on sandcastle to raise Sandy aid
Work has started on what organizers say will be the world’s tallest sandcastle that will benefit the victims of Superstorm Sandy.
A bucket brigade was formed at Jenkinson’s Pavilion in Point Pleasant Beach on Monday to form the sandcastle’s foundation.
Ed Jarrett of Wiscasset, Maine, tells the Asbury Park Press the sandcastle will be 50 feet high. One side will feature a Jersey shore theme while the other will include a gothic-style design.
The Guinness Book of World Records says Jarrett holds the record for the world’s tallest sandcastle for his 37-foot, 10-inch creation in Farmington, Conn.
Once the sandcastle is finished in June, people will be charged to get a closer look. The money will be donated to Hometown Heroes for its Sandy relief efforts.
