Woman killed in hit and run incident near University of Delaware campus

Newark Police are looking for the person who struck and killed a woman crossing the street near the Newark Public Library.

The woman was identified as 76 year old Helen Yang of the 300 block of East Main Street in Newark.  The hit and run happened just after 8:30 Monday night when the victim was crossing the street from the College Square Shopping Center on Route 72.  She was struck in front of the library, which is just south of Main Street in Newark near the University of Delaware campus.

Several people tried to help the victim after the car left.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.  Her name was with held for almost 18 hours so family members could be notified.

Police believe they are looking for a 1998-2002 four door Honda. Police report it is black in color.
