Winter storm stalls legislative progress in Delaware

The winter storm is slowing momentum at Legislative Hall in Dover.

State lawmakers returned to work just a week ago where they dove into some of Delaware’s hot button topics however, the General Assembly had to cancel all legislative work for the last two days due to the snowstorm.

The House Economic Development Committee was scheduled to vote today on Senate Bill 6, which would raise the state’s minimum wage. The bill received mix support at the recent House Small Business Caucus meeting.

The House Administration Committee was also expected to vote today on Senate Bill 151, which clarifies the responsibilities of the cash management policy board. The bill, which originally received criticism from state Treasurer Chip Flowers, cleared the senate last week.

Dozens of other committee meetings in both the House and Senate were also canceled and reschedule dates have not been announced. Governor Jack Markell is scheduled to deliver his annual state of the state address tomorrow.
