The iconic windmill became detached this evening from the WindMill restaurant building in Long Branch.

Photos from the scene show the windmill in one piece as it rests on the ground alongside the building’s floor level.

A portion of the upper deck’s railing and fence were damaged by the collapse.

Police say there were no injuries or vehicles damaged when the windmill fell onto a portion of Ocean Boulevard.

New blades with LED lights were recently added to the building’s tower.

According to NOAA, winds were gusting over 20 miles per hour this evening, although the cause for the collapse was not immediately known.

The WindMill is a chain of Jersey Shore restaurants that is famous for its flat-grilled hot dogs.
