Wilmington police have charged a suspect in the death of 24-year-old Artiese Brown on April 28 in the 600-block of 6th Street.

Mateo Pinkston, 25, was arrested on Wednesday not far from the spot where Brown was killed and another woman was shot. He’s facing charges including second degree murder, assault and reckless endangering.

Following the murder, members of Brown’s family joined local clergy for an anti-violence rally. At that rally, Brown’s aunt, Patricia Brown-Robbins, said, “I have been telling the Wilmington Police Department that area of 6th St., there have been over nine shootings, three murders, right in that block.”

Police said the investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.
