Wilmington firetruck hit by bullet during fatal shooting

Wilmington firefighters investigating a gas leak Thursday night were put in the line of gun fire in a fatal shooting.

The shooting happened in the area of the 200 block of N. Connell St. in Wilmington around 6:30 Thursday night. One person was shot and killed. None of the firefighters in the area were hurt, but the fire department’s Engine 6 was shot in the tire. 

Wilmington Police offered little information on the homicide victim, other than asking anyone with information to come forward.

Wilmington Fire Chief Anthony Goode took to Twitter to remind firefighters to be keep safety and situational awareness in mind. “Not like it used to be, firefighters & EMS always face risks!,” Goode tweeted.
