West Chester looks to keep students from moving into town center

As anyone who lives near a college campus knows, the presence of students can be a pro and con.

Philadelphia’s university students are often at odds with neighbors, and that seems to be the case in West Chester, too.

So the borough has voted to draft and ordinance to eliminate student housing in West Chester’s town center. The idea, according to the Daily Local, is to draw an older demographic to the area to build up business.
The plan isn’t sitting well with students, as you can imagine, but that’s not the only pushback. Property owners who developed student-oriented lots in the town center are miffed their work could be for naught.

Temple, St. Joe’s, Philly U., West Chester — they’ve all experienced tension with adjacent neighborhoods. Is there one good approach for handling that relationship?
