Weekend News Briefs: 7/16-7/18

Saturday — A 19-year-old man was hospitalized early Saturday evening after being shot by police in Frankford. Officers encountered the man on the 4900-block of Griscom Street around 7:30 p.m., and noticed a gun in his waistband.

After running to a vacant lot, the man pulled his gun, and was shot by the officers. He was taken to Jefferson Hospital after being hit once in the back. Police recovered the weapon.

Police are questioning the driver responsible for a car crash that left a man seriously injured. A 60-year-old man was struck by a vehicle Saturday night while he was walking near Bustleton and Haldeman avenues around 9 p.m. in Bustleton. He was taken to Aria Health-Torresdale with life-threatening injuries. There is no word yet on how the accident occurred, and no charges have been filed.
