Weekend curfew in Philadelphia extended in targeted areas

The weekend curfew in parts of Philadelphia will go on for at least a little while longer, as Mayor Nutter announced Friday the 9 p.m. deadline for minors to return home was to be extended in targeted areas.

Mayor Nutter says the decision to keep the curfew in effect will allow the city time to decide how to handle issues during the weekdays and weekends during the course of the school year.

The weekday curfew is 10:30 p.m. for minors 13 and older and 9 p.m. for minors 12 and younger.

The curfew was imposed as a way to discourage violent mobs.
